In this week 7 & 8 (it was free study week), We have done 3D polygon project to create particular "Hard Surface Modelling" which requires to create one solid obect from given categories then find a references to create. The project itself requires to use all techniques We all have learnt so far and we also need to find the techniques by our own to create one particular original work.
In this project, I pick up "Weapon" from given category and I decided to create "Master Sword" from The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time TM by spending 5 days in a week to complete, this work included building a "Temple of Time" which Master Sword locates in the game. As the resul, The work itself has become something that made me satisfy unsatisfy at same time.
2, Production
The project itself started from finding a references about a Master Sword, I found a good image on Internet and I started my work from converting an image found in Internet into PNG file.
After finding a references image, I started to modelling a 3D shape by using a blender. I started with the Crossguard (A guard on a European style sword to protect the wielders hand) of a sword, The reason for this is becouse it may be seemed as most complicated part to create.
To create crossguard of the Master Sword, I used the boolean tool to cut off the cylinder tool that looks ellipse from upper side, I found it was difficult to make edges in the crossguard, but I ralised that it'll be much easier by just using creating new faces from one side of a object then resize the side to made edges. These works are inspired from my past work of juice bottle.
After making a crossguard, I moved to the some articular decolation parts on the sword, it was the part the I mostly struggled because of this was my first time to use spin tool. to use this, I need to establich the axis to spin, then expand the side of shape of making a curved line, I used this tool and adjust some curved line to looks more natural for sword decoration, but to think it from now, the some part was floating and I regret a bit that could be much more advantage ti improve, however, in the result thedecolation otself was ice to have a look and the curved process was quite going well.
I moved to the process to make edge part of the sword, the process itself has been already done from making a knife process. It was challenging to make the edge sharp in this process, however, there are some part where the edge is not sharp, how did I make not sharp edge? I moved the position of every vertices or edges to create not sharp edge, To think about the modellling of edge now,I guess I should have make the edge much more smooth, however I successfully make the edge of sword symmetrically and the shape itself also follows the original images and the modell itself ends up with same of original shape and edge is also sharp enough.
In the both sword decoration and part of edge, I applied the metalic texture so the sword now looks more hard and stong. To speak about gripping part, I used simmilar technique used in the juice bottle moddeling, duplicate the side of the object and expand and change its size and position, in the end, the gipping pat also looks same as original image, I also add some geen-ish tape by cutting cylinder object locating gripping part of the sword.
After applying coloured texture to the every object, the project has been finally done in the collect way. The final form of 3D master sword looks pretty nice and accurate in a one look, however if we look closer, there could be much more point that can improve my future work, first, I forgot the smooothing process because I was bit afraid to apply smoothing process that may disort the object, however I know applying these kind of process makes the object looks smoother, therefore I decided to use sub-divide process much more efficiently to looks the object more natural and smooth. secondary, the texture of part of sword expect the metalic part doesn't seem hard, it looks like some plastic toy, this is the part I regret in this production, I didn't know most suitable editing to look the object more hard for sword, I think I should have applied some metalic texture to looks more tough, this si the part I should take a closer look to the priginal master sword in the game. Finally tape (or some leather) holding around the gripping part of the sword, that part should looks like something spinning around, but in my work, it looks like some kind of decoration, I should resize some of them and apply much more suitable texture so it looks like a leather.
As the result, even though there are some part that can be more improved, the sword itself looks nice and accurate to the original work.
After making a sword model, I decided to make a model of building called "Temple of time" which os fictional building in the game "Ocarina of Time", this temple is the building that master sword exists, in the making of the building model, I also used my ideas from either what I've learnt from both side of colledge lecture and self study. The building wall production itself is inspired by past work, unrotuinatelly, I forgot how did I make wall eitht from edpsnding 3D Cylinder or removing iniside of object, but it can be also said either process I used, I can still say that all the effort used was indpired from my past work.
After making 3D models of teple, I moved to the process of applying textures. I used the website called "3D TEXTURES" which provide us a nice-looking texture for blender, I used all textures from his website to get a nice textures for temple.
I sttrugle to find out the texture for steps on the ground, in the original game, the texture looks like using some particular stone, however I could not find any good stone texture similar to the texture used in the steps. To think about it from now, I regret that I should have used some marble texture, similar things can be said to the windows frame, I made a windows from same as original game, but I could not find good textures for windows frame too, I think I should have searched good texture for windows frame too.
Once I completed making both sword and building, I moved to the process of lighting, The main goal for lighting was all about "forcusing sword as legendary sword". To achiee this goal, I also worked angles and positions of camera to make sword much stronger, I used low angle to take sword and I also use light to spot the sword, I guess both work makes the impression of sword much strong and legendary. There are some point that I missed, I used strong light from outside of building to the inside of the buildings, however the the process of rotation the light didn't go well and the result end up with the ligh spot doesn't locate collect place as I expected. This is one of my biggect mistake I made in this project.
3, Summary
The process of production itself was quite going well because I finally complete making a 3D model by my own, I am also satsfied that I could use most of the techniques I've leanrt and things I leanrt online, however, the I also found some works that I should overcome in next upcoming future works sych as lighting, smoothing, texture and so on...
I love the work I've done and I hope I also applied some impression to this legendary sword.
