2, Tasks

・Week 1 ～ 3

Analogue Collage

First of all, I am going to appologize to forget about updating weekly E portfolio, This is because I missed to check Module Instruction Booklet. To prevent happening this kind of mistakes again, I am carefully going to check MIB next time.

During this week, We;ve learnt about collage, which is making a new image from given pictures.

I started to collect several old magazines and create several images.

To say comclusion first, all of my these works are failure, because I didn't use "Golden ratio" or "Golden Spiral". What's that? Basically it's the basic design principles to make a strong visual that can attract view's attention. Additionally, the centre of golden spiral can attract viewer's attention most.

After learning the ideas about golden ratio, I recreate my collage work, in that time, I decided to create collage work with theme about "music", however, The photographs about music is so limited, so I downloaded some pictures and I used them to create collage work.

After making several working, I decided to use the last one as final collage artwork. In this collage artwork I surely used Golden spiral so left side musicians to attract attention to the viewers. The problem of this artwork is background, even though I made a complete collage work, I regret because the background is too complex to use, in the result, This artwork is not stable to see.

Week 4

Digital collage

To sate this first, this is my first time to create digital collage work using Adobe softwar, and because of that I haven't received Adobe software license until recently, therefore I had a delay to use Adobe software.

Once I have understood the way to use Adobe ilustrator, I have created three different artworks with different theme.

After I have finished to create three different digital collage, I decided use second digital collage becuase all visual elements I used are united together and balanced well, however, I could add more decolation when I look back now.

Week 4

This week, We've learnt about double exposure, I've started to learn about the photoshop from this week.

The double exposure is learning about combining image as shown below.

In the leson, we've learnt about double exposure method that uses double mask layer that applied on both layer to make a double exposure, but I used alternative method that duplicate both original image and background image and uses mask layer to make double exposure (This method is explained more in the Youtube Video shown below.)

After watching video, I tried to make my own double exposure picture with my image from my self photograph I took.

I used the method I used from YouTube which basically duplicates both background and foreground images and applies a mask layer.

As you can see, even though I made double exposure, the upper part is too simple although the city background is complicated, the problem I found is that this image is too unbalanced, therefore, I tried to apply visual weight on the upper part of this image to make this image balanced.

First, I tried to apply the moon in the upper half of the image, however, this moon image is not enogh to make this mage balanced, in addition, the left side is still empty, therefore I was still required to try different image to apply as new image to make balanced double exposure.

This is my final form of double exposure work which I added a star as background, as the result, the problem of unbalanced design was finally solved and there is also a golden spiral that guides viewers to see my main emphasis of this visual image. The contrast of darker background and white T shirt also creates beautiful contrast in this image. As a result, I completed my double exposure and it went perfectly beautifully.

After Effect

 I had a digital photograph task to create a animation from Photoshop file. The given photoshop file is formed by four different images on the background of wooden coloured texture. The four different images are :

・Typewriter

・Fencer

・Shark

・Projector

The images of given file is as shown below.

I started my own project from planning about how should I create animation from here.

When I first look at the image, I realize that there might be a relationship between projector and typewriter, then I come up the ideas related to the movie. The reason for this is because projector is used to show the movie and typewriter is used for advertise movie. Both shark and fencer can be main part of the movie.

After finishing planning, I decided to create a animation using Adobe After effect.

Progress

First of all, I started my project from making animation for the projector, I already decided that projector will come up from nothing by rotating itself. I make this idea from opening screen from classic movie as shown below.

After I finish creating animation for projector, I also created animation for typewriter too. I create animation for typewriter based on its function of typewriter itself which moves after finishing writing text line by line.

As The progress so far, The movie I made had became as shown below.

After designing animation for two images, projector and typewriter, I moved to another animation, shark and fencer.

When I design animation for shark, I tried to represent fast movement of the shark, therefore I planned to finish animation for shark for 1 second, but unfortunatelly I nade mistake to start animation from beginning of the video, as the result, the speed of shark become slower than I expect, so I fixed the point where animation starts much earlier.

After making animation for shark, I start to make animation for fencer. First of all, I realized that it's too oring to just make an animation to move fencer in 2d way, so I decided to add 3d feature to move more realistically. however, it's not easy as said. I have to think about rotation and proportion, when I flip the image oif fencer too much, it goes too weird, however, less angle makes less impressive for realistic outlook. I carefully adjust each parameter and finally completed animation.

Week 6~11

In This weeks, We have learnt about two tpics, Photoshop editing which is about Merging and colouring. First of all, Merging is the way to combine image into a different background photograph. The method the Youtube given isn't just about trimming the people's potograph and paste onto background images. First, usingg quick selection tool to select just an image that you want to paste on the another image, after that, press ctrl+c and ctrl+p(for windows) to copy selected image onto a background, then resize the image to look natural. After finishing resize, g to Image→Adjustment colour→Mathch colour to adjust image's colour (make sure to choose background iamge as resources), then use brush tool to make a shadow, finallly, duplifate imagr and rotate it, then you must use pen tool and layer mask to convert itself and use blur tool to make it as reflecting by water surface.

After making an image, thr final outcome must be shown as below. :

After making Shazam photo into one backgroun, I tried to import photography of myself into same background, the point I realized important is adjustment of colour, adjusing colour of myself makes photograph much realisstic.

Originally, The colour of myself in the original photograph was just shown as below.

After importing myself and adjusting my colour balance, the photograph of myself has became as shown below.

You may see no difference, but when I tried to import my photograph, I have tried o look real by adjusting colour balance. As the result shows, my work has been completed pretty well.

Secondary, I have tried to recolour black and white image. The process can be explained by "Select a part of photograph where you want to recolour, then fill solid colour in softlight mode", after I was explained by given slide, I tried by using photograph of myself and recolouring the man's photograph shown below.

I have tried as exlained in the google slide, and I have got the result as shown below, To say concluion first, total outlook doesn't seem wired, however, the colour of the edge of chin looks too much bright. I guesss I don't think I forgot to change layer as softlight, therefore I think I misunderstand the darkness under the shadow, therefore, I can come up the idea as next task is understanding the colour under the shado.

I also tried to emphasize the man by making diffference of colour between background and the man as shown above, in the result, the impression f a man is way better than how I expected.

I tried second image I choose for my recolouring task. I choose the woman image as shown below.

The problem was the image itself looks like photograph or female and I could not use my selfie as sorce for recolour, therefore I fond image from internet so I can recolour black and white hotograph of a woman. The photograph I used as resprce was shown below.

As the result, I have made a recoloured image as shown below.

I still regret even though the image itself looks recoloured successfilly, I should have been able to make it more colourful and vivid.

In the end, I received the task to complete surrealistic self portrait. First of all, when I heared about the information tha the task to be completed is about creating surrealism image, I came up one artist name, Erik Johanson, who is the Swedish photographer who makes realistic, but unreal images as shown below.

I was trying to represent my work as Erik Johanson and I also tried to represent Malaysia and myself because I wanted to represent the place I spent almost 8 years.

I also add my favourite hobby, playing video games, to represent my characteristics.

I tried to make my own artworks by referred these images shown below.

I tried these references to create my own design about myself in surrealism style.

Week 7, 11

During this week, I have learnt about the way to use camera and dos and don'ts about light. It was basically what kind of factor effect to the quality of photographs, To explain much simply, It was all about shutter speed, lens, light volume and zooming scale. To explain much simply, it was all about controlling the amount of light so we can easily organizing the ipression of light.

The phtograph I've taken as shown below.

To state my conclusion, this photograph works went pretty well, I could use the factor of lens, and shutter speed and any other factor to organize the amount of light, so as the result, I can easily organize theimpression of the photograph very easily. This is because the part which has more brighter light can attract more people.

In the week 11, We had a session again to learn about the lighting in the photograph. The point was the amount of light we should handle gentry. If the light amount is too strong, the light itself on the object gets too bright as shown below.

To control amount of light, we need to handl stronge main light and sub light existing opposite side of the main light. We can handle brightness and position of the light to create most suitable amount light on the object.

If we using too much weak light on the object the shadow on the image gets too dark and image gets dstorteda s shown below.

I tried to organise position and brightness, so in the result I finally completed the image with perfect brightness and darkness on my lunch jar. I tried to decrease the brightness of the main light, but I couldn't decrease the brigtness anymore from here.
