1, Introduction

This is the E portfolio about VSP's second project "Video Shooting and editing". We're going to shoot videos and edit online/offline to understand how to create and edit a video to watch.

2, Angles

This is my work with Han lee to take movie walikng around Taylors. To state what went wrong and even better if, I think I understand the brief structure about different shot to take, I also worked quite well at amount of light in the scene to avoid too much dark or too much bright, on the other hand, I could make the video much more fluent and there are still some problem about lighting. Perhaps my next task to complete is managing the light...

First of all, there are ifferent types of shoot depends on the distance between camera and object to be taken. Each different shot has different role and they are all different ability to express different impression. To explain simple, closer shot emphasise object/character's details, on the other hand, wide shot can express environment/background around main objects/characters to show.

3, Lalin

This is the film that Thalish girl called Lalin who has facial problem meets some boy. In this project, i tried to edit provided videos to combine to form one long scene. 

At first time I tried to trim unnnecessary scene and sort the order of the film to organize the sequence for its fluency, hen I combine all of them into one film. 

I mainly focused on the movie's fluency. some of the scene must have relationship to make coherence in the movie. I added some effect to edit between two different scene.

Fluency was the core for this scene.

I also made 30 second of Lalin film itself.

In this film, I also focused on the fluency of the scene itself, because during this trimming, I also trimmed sound part therefore some part goes sudden change. I tried to avoid feeling weird from this sudden sound change.

I also watched the file of "Lalin" and another film called "guang" and analyse both of them in bullect point from the point about "3 structure".

Lalin

3 stage structure

1st (Introducing story)

・Lalin herself introduce who she is (personality, characteristic, loation to live)Explaining what she thoughts 

・Before the story goes to stage 2, She explains us about what her thoghts about the reason of what she's doing

・1st stage ends after introduction of main protagonist and her thoughts.

2nd (Move to the core part of the story)

・The main part of stary starts around (5:45), the screen itself showns Lalin's mdium wide shot about chatting to "Austronaut Nut"  show current action, with that scene, facial expression was also using taking it by close shot to show Lalin's emotion.

・Does surrounding condition also express the scene's mood? I impress.

・Mostly the 2nd scene was used for inroducsing the any climax for the movie, in this short film, its introduction was expressed by close shot of chat and focusing on Lalin's face.

・I guess "contrast" was also using in this film, the scene itself may seem same as before because it takes similar scene to before, but the chat between "Lalin" and "Austronaut Nut" to show hat unlike before Lalin enjoys life with communicating with him.

・Sudden change to the climax starts from different scene from previous scene, in the film "Lalin", the sudden change is email receiving from "Astronaut Nut".

3rd (climax of the film and it goes to an end.)

・The sudden change of the scene starts from when the Lalin shows her face. The shot itself focuses on close shot to emphasise Lalin's face.

・Close shot and extreme close shot are used effectivelty to expressing the key object of "Austronaut Nut" to show his thoughts.

(10:55) During Two of different character's conversation, the camera's horizontal angles doesn't change over 180 degrees to avoid distortion of the characters, 

・During the conversation scene, camera shoot itselfs uses close or Medium shot to express their nice coversation (athough Astronaut Nut is shy...)

・Music is also used efficiently, the peak (climax) of the song starts when the Lalin starts to running.

・The scene of Astronaut Nut's walking and Lalin's walking joins together to express dramatic scene.

(I meant dramatic scene (climax of the scene) expressing by showing both of the main caracter is running.)

・In the climax scene, there were close shot of the character going up and down, is that sort of "contrast" to express the gap of some feelings?

・At the end of the scene, shoing Lalins whole face in different scene to express protagonist, Lalin's dramatic scene that changing her mind.

Guang

3 stage structure

1st (Introducing story)

・The male protagonist just approaching to the old guy in the road, then he smiles to introduce what's going to happen.

・The light itself is blue, the shaking and looking downwards to express he's on pins and needle.

・His curious was focus on the sound by expressing camera's close shot of grass of drink and sound of spining drink.

2nd (Move to the core part of the story)

・After the introduction of story itself the story goes to the main core.

・During the conversation, the camera doesn't rotate over 180 so the position of two character doesn't change so viewers can understand.

・The caracteristic itself was quite well-described by his forcus and mood expressed by action of Wen Guang (this film's protagonist).

・The shot itself is tend to use closer shot to express the relaionshiop around Wen Guang and thought of him.

・Sudden BGM mute and close shot on one object to express the any notise that Wen Guang made.

3rd (climax of the film and it goes to an end.)

・Very close shot of Guang face and grass o express his interest and advantage that he really interests and skill.

・Flashback to the current scene ha can ecpress what he was trying to do.

・The music itself also tries to mpove the drama goes dramatic.

・The light tome of the screen lso goes to vivid warm colour to show that the Guang finally achieved what he's really trying to do.

4, Music video

I also tried to make 4 people as a group to make a 30 second of MV. The MV was about song called "SKRILLEX - KYOTO" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86khmc6y1yE). The problem was during the dance recording, we had lack of dance practise, therefore I added visual effect as much as possible to decorate my MV. I also try to make fluency on the MV, every member's dance was originally doesn't match at all, therefore I trimmed the part where two members have similar pose to avoid losing fluency in the MV.

(Due to copyright issue, I removed soud part.)

However, this MV was mistake cause I didn't use the ideas for shoot and angles and I decided to recreate the video to use all video shoot and angles much efficiently. I used different music that I used for the first video, the pros for this video is about using all of angles and shoot I should use for this task, howevr the edit itself could be improve more to emphasise the each scene and act itself also potential to improve because I couldn't use the effect for the my second video well.

5, New Lalin

 For video editing in Lalin, I also made a short clip to make a scene of new lalin taken in Taylors. I organised the order of the film and maintaining fluencyand emotion as much as possible to make a correct scene as actual movie. However, adjusting colour vbalance and script movement was really tough and I found that this is going to be my futurre work to overcome to adjust the light and colour balance to maintain visual fluency.

6, Recording project

After editing several videos to understanding ideas for developing videos, I moved to the our main task for project 2, Recording video the task for me and the brief progress was all saved in different pages (https://aratamabuchi.blogspot.com/2022/10/week-6-recordings.html), but to summarise the task I've done for recording, I take design director who decide the clotes and location to take for our recordings.

First, I decided the costume for actors in film. The movie itself is about romance (when I checked later, it was actually about breaing love), therefore I decided to desin as modern clothes like young people wear, I used photoshop to make ideas for designing clothes and I regret a bit that I should consider more for clothes designings. 

After deciding clothes to wear, I deciding the location to take for each scenes, each scenes must contains different angle and shoot, however, my lack of understanding the location to take, I was forced to move to different location to take a shoot.

In the Eportfolio I made in the week 6 (https://aratamabuchi.blogspot.com/2022/10/week-6-recordings.html), I wrote my wrok as shown below.

"My main work during the taking scene was holding and making the sound with clapperboard, which is the part of the record to start recording. I have to ask video and audio recording and actors to ask they are ready and start the recording by clapping the clapperboard. his is my first time to do this and I hope I successfully complete my work.

These are my works I've done during the recording scenes, the point I have keep in mind in the how to express the story in the recordings, sometimes I need to tell actors about how to act each scenes and sometimes I talked to a director about the way to take scenes, the shoot, angles and actor's act itself are all key features to make a good move. As the result, I have completed a good work in this recordings." (Articles from my Eportfolio )

After taking the video, the other recording staff sync the audio and recordings, then I just moved to edit the scene to adjust lighing and add BGM and sound effect to make one stroy about breaking love.

First of all, I forcused on the adjust the colour and lighting balance for the scenes, I start to adjust light balance to make the each scene much clear to see, after I made a first movie, I increased blue balance because the story itself is sad movie, therefore I forcused on the scene to add sad impression by adding blue colouring.

Some clips have different colour and light balance, therefore I also tried to maintain the similar light and colour balance for same scenes.

Additionally, you might notise that there are additional effect on the some scene, I added this because I thought some scenes is about flashbackl of memory, therefore I added additional effect to make the scene like a recollection of memory.

I also focused on the audio effect itself, when I comibined all of recordings, I found that the movie itself is boring because all the scene was silent.

I decided to insert sad music called "私、花火ってキライなんだ" (Actually, I hate fireworks.) and some sound effect to emphasise the impression of the film to make sad impression more for the audiences. 

After several edit to combine every recordings and adding visual and sound effect, I finally got my first video for project 2. The main problem was the movie itself is about over 30 seconds long so I need to make shorter version of the movie.

7, Conclusion

To state my point where I could have improved my work, I have two point I need to improve for future recording. :

1, Find out more references for each actors for expressing the scene efficiently

2, (For group work only), I need to consider to the director about the plan or ideas.

I think developing ideas itself was not bad because I have considered costumes depends on the feeings that actors should express, however, lack of the understanding of story cause less knowledge of the way to expression. Lack of communication also cause same failure for this film.

During my edit the recordings, I think I used the light and colour expression efficiently to express feelings, even I tried to use the effect to make the scene as old time memories, the adjustment of lighting and colouring for the scenes are also ging well.

To conclude my progress for this movie, I think the edition of colour and light balance was going well, on the other hand the mise en scene should be improved more.
